Folk Music Workshop with Sophie Randles-Dunkley
Find Your Feet in a Folk Session!
Sophie Randles-Dunkley, the leader of Festival favourites The Appledore Ceilidh Band, is hosting a folk music workshop.
Open music sessions are one of the most welcoming and joyful parts of the folk music tradition, with players cramming into pubs across the land to play tunes together til the wee small hours.
Ever fancied joining a folk session but felt too nervous to turn up and play? You’re not alone.
In this relaxed workshop, members of the Appledore Ceilidh Band will help you discover the simple pleasure of joining in. We’ll teach a tune (maybe two if time allows) by ear, then play together as a group so you can experience the magic of a session in action.
All instruments are welcome. You should be able to play your instrument at a basic level and be comfortable playing in G and D major. There’s no need to be able to read music, though we will have the ‘dots’ on hand in case you want them.
Come along, learn a tune or two, and discover that sessions are for everyone.
After this we hope you’ll feel ready to come along to Russ’s regular Folk Music Session at The Champ on Tuesday evenings year-round from 8pm.
Either way, you can catch the Appledore Ceilidh Band in full flow at the Appledore Music Festival Ceilidh on Sunday 31 May.
This event is ticketed and tickets must be purchased in advance. If the workshop is full, and you would like to be added to the waiting list, please send a request via the Contact Us form.
The ticket price is £5 per person including all fees. To reserve your place, click here to purchase your ticket.
